Why Update an AoR?

If your project boundaries change, or if you want a more accurate representation of your project area, you should update your Area of Responsibility (AoR) map layer. You may also wish to adjust the level of detail:

  • More detailed: Better reflects the exact boundaries of your project.

  • Less detailed: Reduces file size and saves storage space.

How to Edit an AoR?

  1. Open the mapping tool: Navigate to https://geojson.io/.

  2. Open your existing file: Load the AoR map layer you wish to edit.

  3. Select an editing option: Use the buttons highlighted on the interface to "edit layers" or "delete layers".

  4. Edit vertices: Click the "Edit layers" button. The corners (vertices) of the polygon will become visible on the map. Each corner corresponds to a pair of coordinates shown in the JSON representation on the right-hand side of the screen.

  5. Move a vertex: Click and drag a corner (vertex) to a new location.

  6. Add or remove vertices: To add a new vertex, click on a transparent circle along the polygon edge. To remove an existing vertex, click on it once.

  7. Save your edits: Click "Save" next to the "Edit layers" button to store your updates.

  8. Download the updated layer: Select GeoJSON from the "Save" menu at the top-left of the map to save your map layer.

  9. Rename the file: The downloaded file will appear in your computer’s download folder as map.geojson. Rename it to AoR.geojson.
  10. Share your updated AoR: Send the file to hello@sensingclues.org (including your name and organisation) or upload it to your personal GeoJSON folder via the Sensing Clues Upload Service.
